When will we be able to use the Iridium modems with the antennas again? I saw the email saying that they system wasn't ready for it yet, but we wanted to do a test flight this Tuesday.

You can use Iridium and the tracking website anytime for a test flight. If you plan to do an actual flight email me an I will make sure no maintenance is being done during an actual flight.
The antenna tracker can be used as well but there have been some updates on the antenna tracker calibration which we will make available to everyone once it has been tested and further updates will be done using github.

Hi, This is Denney Cole at Tigard High School, Tigard, Oregon. We have an Iridium Tracking module we built up during the July workshop (Table 1, 046j). On August 24th, everything was working great, was able to see what part of the football field, etc. Haven't been able to repeat this since. Power light is on, GPS light is on. Have tried resetting it several times. Any suggestions wold be welcome. (We have made some progress making the camera servos to wiggle)

As of right now we have to manually start a program in order for the mapping website to work. We hope to have it automated within a few weeks from today(8/31/16). In the meantime, if you do not see your position on the homepage go to "archive" and find your imie number and for the current date and select it. It will open up a new tab with just your current flight info. If your IMIE number is not shown in the archive for the current date the program on our end is not running or there are no packets making it through Iridium. If you know ahead of time when you will be testing or flying, notify MSGC and we will be sure someone starts the program.

If the Iridium LED is off that means there is no satellite connection with Iridium. If you do not get a connection within a couple minutes make sure the proper antenna is connected, the connection is tight, and there is a clear view of the sky or you are not next to a large building or something. We have seen no Iridium connection for several minutes but very rarely.

You were correct! Loose antennae connections.

Hi MSGC Team! Today we tried to test our Iridium tracker with our ground station and discovered two issues we would love your input on; the first issue was that we saw what appeared to be two locations reported on the tracking website (one location was our actual position, the other was a location north of Nashville just within the Kentucky state line---way far away from us). The secondary issue was being unsure if our tracking system should be more responsive? Multiple tests appear to show the software and hardware are working properly EXCEPT that the dish does not physically track the modem...any ideas??
Thanks!

Depends what page you are on on the tracking website, the home page, the first page that opens, will show all balloons reporting for that day. There was a balloon flying around Tennessee Kentucky border on 9/11. From the home page you find your balloon and click on it, this will open a separate page that shows only the balloon and data of the balloon selected. Or you can do the same by going to the "archive" tab and select your IMIE number for the date of the flight, if you do not see your IMIE for the date in question the Iridium packets are not getting through, this is usually caused from the modem not having a connection with the Iridium network, the Iridium LED will be off. The antenna tracker depends upon how far or close the modem is to the antenna, if it is fairly close, ie within 100', and the lateral movement of the modem is not more than 30' or so the dish will not move. The GPS location can fluctuate by more than +-15' and the angle between the antenna and modem needs to move enough before the antenna will move. If the modem was move than 100' feet away and 'traveled' more than 30' laterally relative to the antenna the antenna should have moved. I am not as familiar with the antenna tracker maybe #Skylar or #Trevor can post some ideas.

smgraham, I just looked at the tracking page and I saw your "balloon" and the balloon that was flying for Kentucky State. If I click on your balloon it shows your path and data points, it was moving far enough the antenna should have moved. I will ask Trevor or Skylar to post their thoughts here. If anyone else has problems with the antenna not moving, please read my previous post above for other information regarding how far the "payload" has to move.

Thanks for the info, David! Happy to narrow our troubleshooting to fewer variables

We are preparing for a test flight this morning and have lost the Iridium tracking. Our payload is still on the ground, all 3 lights are green, but the BOREALIS tracking site appears to have gone down in the last hour? I don't see any balloons on it anymore, and when I go to "archive", I just get the message "Failed to connect to MySQL: Too many connections" Is there an explanation? We want to test but won't launch without this working, seems pointless.
