We received an Iridium modem today, and our flight is happening Saturday. What does the setup for this modem involve? Can we just turn it on and expect it to work with the ground station tracking software? Otherwise what do we need to do to get ready to use it on Saturday?

Can we just turn it on and expect it to work with the ground station tracking software? Otherwise what do we need to do to get ready to use it on Saturday? The modem we sent you was already setup to make this test run easier on you guys. There is a bit of documentation generated already by the group over the last few years in this link. drive.google.com/open?id=0B7rHwAFmzqZOM3NSbkxIeWVLSG8If you have not had the chance, there is a link the "New Members Stop Here" discussion that is all of our work to date on various aspects of the project. Your modem will work when you turn it on and report to our lab computer here, which in turn in referenced by the database. However, the website will not update until we launch a flight (launch a java script on our local machine), either a test or an actual flight. Contact myself, David, or Randy to launch a test or actual flight. Currently this is being updated so that we do not have to launch a flight to see the data online but it will be a bit till it is up and running. Private message me if you are missing my personal email. Also, the current system reports all of the modems to the same database, meaning that if more than one modem is on at a time, you will have data reporting for both modems and there is not a distinction at this point. A senior design project at Montana State is wrapping up shortly and will resolve this and sort the modems according to ID number. *sigh* We're trying but it's a work in progress.

As a second note, we do need to launch a flight for your ground station to work. The java script we launch adds data from Iridium to the mySQL database that the ground station references. Again this is less than ideal but we're used to being the only ones running these modems :/
