I'm curious if anyone else has had as much trouble as we have with high winds during balloon fill and launch. Team Kentucky previously filled and launched balloons early in the morning to avoid the wind, but have recently began moving our launch time to later in the day to replicate the conditions on eclipse day. Now, when we fill balloons, the wind makes them almost impossible to control. Several have been damaged from being blown around too fiercely.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone have steps to help reduce the affect of the wind on the balloon?

Great question! It's been really calm here but we're worried about what to do if Aug 21st happens to be windy. I've seen pictures of some teams using something like a sheet to control the balloon without pressing on it directly. They seem to either drape it over the balloon, or have several people hold it downwind to kinda catch the balloon. I haven't personally done this so I can't really say that it works.
I'm really curious to see what the experienced folks will say about this.
