In Minnesota, we've been having trouble getting OCCAMS commands to work with the cutter. I tried uploading the newest version of the code to the control board (OccamsControl_1-4), but this resulted in the speaker and LED on the control board cycling at .5Hz rather than 1Hz. As per step 3h of the software setup instructions in the OCCAMS documentation on the MSGC Project Box, I tried flashing the bootloader to fuse the bits. When I did this, I got the error
"avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check."
Now the control board is unresponsive except for the rear ASC LED flashing at 1Hz when I power the board, and whenever I try to upload code to the board, I get the same error as above.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on here? Help would be much appreciated!

You shouldn't have to re-install the bootloader unless it is a brand new board that has never been used. It sounds like the wrong bootloader is installed or the fuse bits are wrong. If it has the wrong bootloader you will have to re-install and make sure you have the Arduino Mini board selected before uploading the bootloader. There are some incorrect instructions in the documentation and the corrections can be found in the troubleshooting section at the back of the document.

I visited with Josh over email. It appears he is working with the January boards (1st workshop) that are lacking the external oscillator. When the board is reflashed, it bricked the board by switching the bits to the external clock. I forwarded general instructions on connecting the board to an Arduino Uno to use it's clock to recover the board. This should not be a problem for anyone else at either workshop (May or July).
