Hi all,
We have had a problem with the ground station laptop when we try to spyder. Spyder will take sometimes 15 mins to launch then when it does and we run the tracking system the gui that pops up stops responding and then the program has to be completely restarted. This happens 3 or 4 times before we can actually use the tracker. Would getting a faster laptop help?(ie a laptop with an i7)

Hey Dakota,
We have noticed that the laptops that we gave you are not always up to the task of running the full setup by themselves. Make sure that there are no scans running by McAfee protection service. Also you could make sure that there isn't any backgound programs needlessly running. I will say that upgrading to a computer that has a i7 would be a good choice, this way you can run multiple programs and not worry about bottlenecking the processor. If you had a i5 laptop you could try this also, since the program for the gui isn't currently multithreaded having a Faster processor is better than more processing cores. Make sure that you follow the installation steps that are online to get the same setup that those Dells currently have. The python code won't run without all the necessary modules installed, this is largely taken care of by installing anaconda, the rest of the modules you need should be explained by the slides in the google drive box.

We just started having problems with Spyder. It won't connect to the server. It goes to 'Not Responding' fairly quickly after updating the com ports. It does not appear to be a laptop resource issue. The Task Manager does not show a dangerously high CPU usage. Could it be we do not have the correct mySQL database host IP? Would you mind sending it to us? Thanks

I am not able to find instructions on the installation steps if we want to start using a different faster laptop. Can someone please point me to the slides? Thanks

we removed/disabled Mcafee on the GSLaptop which resulted in a considerable boost in performance.

Just a quick note on McAfee and updates. Depending on what windows updates have been done either McAfee or Windows Firewall will control the firewall. McAfee wont block putty but Windows Firewall will block putty. If you ever do an update and all of a sudden putty times out when trying to ssh to either RFD or Ubiquity it could be Windows Firewall blocking putty, you have to go into Windows Firewall and make an exception for putty. If you disable McAfee and putty stops working it could be now windows firewall is blocking putty. My personal recommendation is to disable McAfee and add an exception for putty in windows firewall. Even if windows is not blocking putty adding the exception will prevent any update from enabling Windows Firewall to block putty.
