Can We Use New Video Pi Image w/o Updating Ubiquity Firmware

Is the new Steaming Video Pi image tied to the Ubiquity Firmware August update? What are the advantages of updating the firmware? Can we use the new Pi image by itself?

The image isn't dependant on the Ubiquiti modems. If you connect a monitor to the pi before turning it on you can just use the image by itself if you wanted.

With the update to the modem firmware, it works better at range when trying to stream long distance.
